The striped sweater is and easy to crochet pattern with a relaxed fit that is perfect for fall or winter. You can use 2 colors or make it a solid pattern if you prefer.

Striped Crochet Sweater Pattern

Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate
Sizes: Instructions provided for S (M, L, XL, XXL)
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in two colors (Color A and Color B)
Hook: 5.5 mm crochet hook
Gauge: 13 stitches x 8 rows = 4 inches in double crochet (dc)

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • rep = repeat

Back Panel

  1. With Color A, ch 60 (65, 70, 75, 80).
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Turn. (58, 63, 68, 73, 78 sts)
  3. Row 2-8: Ch 2, dc in each st across. Turn.
  4. Switch to Color B and work 8 more rows in dc. Alternate colors every 8 rows until the panel measures approximately 22 (23, 24, 25, 26) inches.

Front Panel

Repeat as for the back panel but leave a neck opening.

  1. Work as back panel until the piece measures 18 (19, 20, 21, 22) inches.
  2. Next row: Work across 25 (27, 30, 33, 36) sts, ch 10 (11, 12, 13, 14), skip 8 (9, 10, 11, 12) sts for neck opening, and continue to the end.
  3. Complete the panel as in the back panel.

Sleeves

  1. With Color A, ch 40 (45, 50, 55, 60).
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Turn.
  3. Row 2-6: Ch 2, dc in each st across.
  4. Increase: Ch 2, dc in the first st, 2 dc in the next st, dc across until the last 2 sts, 2 dc in the next st, dc in the last st.
  5. Continue alternating 6 rows of Color A and 6 rows of Color B, increasing every 4th row until the sleeve measures 18 (19, 20, 21, 22) inches.

Assembly

  1. Seam Panels: Align the front and back panels. Use a whip stitch or sl st to seam the sides and shoulders, leaving space for the armholes.
  2. Attach Sleeves: Seam the long edge of each sleeve. Attach the sleeves to the armholes, ensuring they are evenly spaced.
  3. Neckline: With Color B, attach yarn to the neckline. Sc evenly around the neckline for 2 rows.

Finishing

  1. Weave in all ends.
  2. Block the sweater gently to finish.
