One of the first afghans that I checked out in the book is the Tumbling Blocks afghan. It's an easy afghan to crochet using black yarn with bright colors to create a dimensional feel. This afghan would be great to add to a room and provide a little bit of color to the area it would also make a great kids blanket!

How to Select the Best Sewing Machine for Quilting Projects

How to Choose the Best Sewing Machine for Quilting Projects

This post contains affiliate links and I may be compensated for a purchase

When shopping for a sewing machine there are several factors to consider and it becomes an intense process in order to select the right machine for your sewing and quilting projects.

Here are a few ideas in order to help you with your selection when shopping for a new sewing machine.

According to the article on  How to Choose the Best Sewing Machine for Quilting  there are several factors to consider starting with

Stitch Variety - Since Stitch variety is not a big seller with quilters and most quilts are made using a straight stitch this may be something to consider when looking at machines.

Harp Space - Which is also called throat space is the room between the needle and the main part of the machine. A small or cramped space will not allow a thick quilt that you are working on be able to fit in the machine.
Automatic Thread Cutter - An Automatic thread cutter will save you lots of time when making your quilts.

Knee Lift - A knee life can be a huge time save because it is activated with your knee and allows you to use both hands at all times to grab on to your quilt.
Speed Control - This is a benefit to new quilters as well as experience quilters especially for free-motion quilting. It helps the quilter feel comfortable and in control.

Needle Up/Down -  The Best sewing machine for quilters is when the needle stop in the down position. It will save time and prevent the needle from wandering.

Presser Foot Pressure - Adjusting the pressure when quilting is necessary especially when working on a thick quilt.

Budgeting for a sewing machine - When it comes to spending money on a sewing machine quality doses matter when it comes to quilting.  You don't want to get a machine that won't be able to do the things you need in order to continue making beautiful quilts. Be sure to compare and look at different options when purchasing a new machine.

How to Make Homemade Lemonade

A refreshing summertime treat there is nothing quite like a fresh glass of cold lemonade.
On a hot summer day an ice cold glass is just what we need to cool off.
Lemonade is easy to make all you need is 3 simple ingredients.
Forget the powered lemonade and make yours from scratch

What you will need to make 8 servings is
1 Cup sugar
1 Cup Water

Directions:  Bring the water and sugar to boil in a small sauce pan. Reduce the heat and simmer but do not stir, until the sugar dissolves, approximately 3 to 4 minutes.  Remove from the heat and let cool.

In the meantime, put a small strainer over a glass measuring cup.  Cut around 10 lemons in half and using a reamer,  squeeze about 1-1/2 cups juice into the measuring cup.  If the lemons are too firm roll them around on a cutting board to soften them first.  This will make the juice come out easier.

In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice, the cooled sugar syrup and 4 cups of water. Taste for tartness, if the lemonade is too tart and 1 or 2 cups more cold water.  Remember is you are adding ice this will dilute the lemonade even more.  Place in the refrigerator until chilled.
Serving suggestion - before serving cut 2 lemons into wedges or slices and stir them into the lemonade and add ice.  Freeze lemonade into cubes and add to the lemonade in order not to dilute the drink like regular ice will do.
